Did you work with Phillips Petroleum Company Marlex high-density polyethylene (HDPE) slurry-loop reactor asbestos-fabric jacket insulation, asbestos-block hot-side lagging on reactor loop shells, and asbestos-packed flange gaskets used at Pasadena TX, Borger TX, and Sweeny TX Phillips polymer reactor complexes? According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, it allegedly contained asbestos. Here is what it was, who was exposed, and who is responsible. Phillips Petroleum Company Marlex high-density polyethylene (HDPE) slurry-loop reactor asbestos-fabric jacket insulation, asbestos-block hot-side lagging on reactor loop shells, and asbestos-packed flange gaskets used at Pasadena TX, Borger TX, and Sweeny TX Phillips polymer reactor complexes, sold from the 1950s until the 1980s. Plaintiffs allegedly worked with or around Phillips Petroleum Marlex HDPE slurry-loop reactor asbestos-fabric jacket insulation, asbestos-block hot-side lagging, and asbestos-packed flange gaskets at Pasadena TX, Borger TX, Sweeny TX, and other Phillips polymer reactor complexes. Allegedly asbestos-woven fabric jacket insulation and asbestos-block hot-side lagging on Marlex HDPE slurry-loop reactor legs, asbestos-refractory lining on the reactor recycle-pump housings, and asbestos-packed flange gaskets on hot polymer / diluent-recycle piping — released fiber during hot-work strip / re-lag, reactor cleanout, and turnaround by polymer reactor operators, chemical plant pipefitters, and chemical plant boilermakers. Workers allegedly exposed around this product included Polymer reactor operators, Chemical plant pipefitters, Chemical plant boilermakers, and Chemical plant turnaround crews. Asbestos claims are brought against the companies that made the products. If you worked with or around Phillips Petroleum Company Marlex high-density polyethylene (HDPE) slurry-loop reactor asbestos-fabric jacket insulation, asbestos-block hot-side lagging on reactor loop shells, and asbestos-packed flange gaskets used at Pasadena TX, Borger TX, and Sweeny TX Phillips polymer reactor complexes and were later diagnosed with mesothelioma, asbestosis, or another asbestos-related disease, you may have a legal claim against the manufacturer. Product Description
Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Phillips Petroleum Company operated Marlex high-density polyethylene (HDPE) slurry-loop reactor complexes at Pasadena TX, Borger TX, Sweeny TX, and other sites that used asbestos-woven fabric jacket insulation on the slurry-loop reactor legs, asbestos-block hot-side lagging on the reactor and recycle-pump shells, and asbestos-packed flange gaskets on hot polymer / diluent-recycle piping. According to those publicly filed asbestos litigation records, the asbestos-fabric jacket insulation allegedly maintained reactor loop temperature for the Ziegler-type chromium catalyst polymerization of ethylene into Marlex HDPE resin, and the asbestos-block lagging allegedly held skin temperatures down on the loop shell.
Plaintiffs alleged that Phillips Marlex slurry-loop reactors required periodic decoking and cleanout, and that the asbestos-fabric jacket insulation and asbestos-block lagging were allegedly stripped and re-lagged during scheduled turnarounds.
Workers Exposed
Plaintiffs allegedly exposed to Phillips Petroleum Marlex HDPE reactor asbestos-containing components include:
- Polymer reactor operators on Marlex slurry-loop reactor rounds and sampling
- Chemical plant pipefitters cutting into hot polymer and diluent-recycle piping at flanges
- Chemical plant boilermakers rebuilding reactor loop shells and recycle-pump housings
- Chemical plant turnaround crews on scheduled reactor decoking and cleanout shutdowns
- Chemical plant insulators stripping and re-lagging asbestos-fabric jacket insulation
- Chemical plant electricians on reactor heater and instrumentation work
- Chemical plant maintenance on flange packing and gasket renewal
