According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, it allegedly contained asbestos. Here is what it was, who was exposed, and who is responsible. Nash Engineering Vacuum Pumps, Liquid-Ring Pumps for Marine, Refinery, Power-Plant, and Industrial Service, sold from 1905 until 2004 (Nash Engineering); today part of Gardner Denver / Ingersoll Rand. Nash Engineering Company manufactured vacuum pumps and liquid-ring pumps used extensively in U.S. Navy shipboard service, marine engine rooms, refineries, and industrial process applications. Plaintiffs allege Nash pumps shipped with asbestos packing, gaskets, and motor insulation. According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, this product allegedly contained the following: asbestos pump packing at stuffing boxes; asbestos casing and flange gaskets; asbestos motor insulation. Workers allegedly exposed around this product included Marine machinists, Navy machinist mates, Pipefitters, and Refinery operators. Asbestos claims are brought against the companies that made the products. Product Description
Nash Engineering Company (South Norwalk CT — founded 1905 by Lewis H. Nash; ultimately absorbed into Gardner Denver and later Ingersoll Rand; today Ingersoll Rand’s Nash brand) manufactured through the 20th century liquid-ring vacuum pumps and compressors widely used in U.S. Navy shipboard condensate and vacuum service, marine engine rooms, refinery vacuum-distillation service, power-plant condenser evacuation, paper-mill vacuum service, and general industrial vacuum applications.
Plaintiffs alleged in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation that Nash Engineering vacuum pumps and liquid-ring pumps were specified through the asbestos era with asbestos pump packing at stuffing boxes, asbestos casing and flange gaskets, and asbestos motor insulation. Navy machinist mates, marine machinists, refinery operators, and industrial-plant maintenance workers who repacked and serviced Nash pumps disturbed asbestos as routine maintenance.
Nash Engineering Company / Gardner Denver / Ingersoll Rand has been named as a Manufacturer Defendant in publicly filed U.S. asbestos personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation.
