Pipe & Block Insulation

Calcium silicate, magnesia, and chrysotile asbestos pipe covering was the thermal insulation standard for high-temperature steam and process piping in industrial and commercial construction from the 1930s through the 1970s. Products including Kaylo, Unibestos, Armabestos, Pabco Caltemp, and Ruberoid Air Cell were applied by insulation contractors throughout power plants, refineries, shipyards, and commercial buildings. Insulators who cut, fit, and applied these products — and workers of all trades in the vicinity during application and removal — were among the most heavily exposed asbestos workers in American industry.
